Preferable Characteristics of an Environment PR Manager November 14, 2011 at 12:26 pm

The process of Environment Public Relations has really evolved through time.  Way back then, an Environment PR initiative can be described as an activity wherein a company would let its employees spend a day cleaning up a specific area or engage in tree planting or any other civic services.  They ask for the aid of media outlets to help them cover the event, and voila, there’s an instant Environment PR program.  However, in this current setting, that does not work anymore.  If a company decides to hire an environmental PR expert, there are specific criteria that should be met.  Read on to learn more.

As time passed, the aforementioned PR initiative as well as other activities of the same vein have been scrutinized by critics and the general public alike.  These methods have been regarded as insincere efforts to show care and concern for the environment.  With this observation from external sources, PR consultants should possess other skills aside from organizing events that show concern to the environment.  There is a need for a PR consultant to be well-versed in utilizing communication tools in order to clearly communicate a specific company’s intentions in attending to the environment.

Specifically, environmental PR experts should have a clear knowledge of the company that they are working for.  By this, we refer to the mastery of certain technical details that revolve around the company.  This is essential especially in communicating the various PR endeavors done by the company to their targeted audiences.  When the consultant knows the company, he or she knows how to position the company in a good light.  Aside from that, a PR expert should also know how to communicate with the people within the company.  To mobilize certain PR initiatives, manpower would be an essential factor.  The PR expert should be able to encourage the people within the company to participate in order to achieve the expected outputs of the projects.

Furthermore, an environmental PR manager should know how to strengthen media relations.  This means that he or she should know how to use media as an effective means in propelling the PR projects.  The PR consultant must be also aware that focus should not be put on only one media form, but all of it instead.  The first three forms of mass media include print, television, and radio.  The job of the PR manager does not only limit itself to the three mentioned areas.  Social media is a growing outlet that has been known to attract a huge number of audiences. In this case, knowledge on social networking might just be helpful in getting the message across.

These are just some of the traits that an environmental PR consultant must possess.  As much as possible, possessing all of the traits mentioned earlier will provide you with an advantage towards the PR efforts of other competitors.  With that, it is not only important that the public relations effort must be competitive, the people who back up with the execution of these projects must be as competitive as well.
